WRD Run for Refugees

World Relief Durham presents the “Run for Refugees” 5k to support refugees who have resettled in Durham.

When: October 26, 2024
Where: Duke University’s East Campus @ the corner of W Main St. & Campus Drive
Why: Millions of persecuted refugees run to find safety and a new beginning. Join us in Run for Refugees to help ensure they are cared for and welcomed when their refugee journey ends here in the Triangle and they begin anew!

Important Logistics for Race Day:

Weather:
The forecast looks beautiful, with a high of 80°F and a low of 50°F. During the race, temperatures may range from 56°F to 70°F, so please dress accordingly.

Course Details:
The race will take place on the Duke East Campus course (right off Campus Drive), which features a mix of sand, gravel, and paved areas. Please be aware of uneven surfaces and take care while running or walking.

Hydration and Support:
There will be two hydration checkpoints along the route, where you can find water and bananas, as well as volunteers ready to assist in case of emergencies. The first checkpoint is located at the second turn, and the second is at the turnaround point.

First Aid:
First aid kits will be available at both checkpoints and at the start/finish line.

Bathrooms:
Bathrooms will be located at the Start/Finish area.

Schedule for the Day:

8:30 AM: Check-in Open
We encourage all participants to check in around 9:00 AM to allow time for stretching and to meet our sponsors.
9:45 AM: Rally
Join us for a pep rally led by Adam Clark, Executive Director of World Relief Durham, featuring important announcements, safety procedures, and encouragement.
10:00 AM: Race Starts
Ready, set, go! Whether you're running or walking, take a moment to review the mile markers and learn more about World Relief Durham and our mission.
11:15 AM: Awards and Final Announcements
Celebrate your achievement! We’ll offer Nothing Bundt Cake Buntinis to all finishers, and awards will be presented to the top three finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories, sponsored by Fleet Feet of Durham and Carrboro.

Optional Picnic:
Duke University's East Campus offers lovely spots for picnicking. We will have a tent available for you to drop off your picnic items during the race, which you can pick up afterward.

Parking:

Duke University has permitted us to park on East Campus. We recommend the lots on Campus Drive. There are also numerous parking spots surrounding Duke University's East Campus. Additionally, there is street parking on the right side of East Campus. If you prefer to be dropped off, there is a drop-off zone on Campus Drive, conveniently located near the check-in and start/finish line.

Price:

$35 – includes a T-shirt, race admission & timing, post-race snack and drink (deadline to guarantee your shirt is October 1st, 2024)
$40 – Same day registration (T-shirts on a first come first serve basis*)
$20 – Child admission includes a T-shirt, race admission & timing, post-race snack and drink (deadline to guarantee your shirt is October 1st, 2024). See registration tent for children joining, but not under admission.
